When your child has a cough, cold, or fever, should you avoid giving bananas or curd? In this video, Dr Vikas Taneja, Director & Unit Head – Pediatrics & PICU, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dwarka, clears common food-related myths linked to childhood illnesses. Foods often labelled as “cold”, such as bananas, curd, rice, or coconut water, do not worsen coughs or colds. Dr Taneja explains that respiratory infections affect the airways, not the digestive system, so food temperature has no direct impact on recovery. Fresh, nutritious food actually supports healing. However, if a particular food repeatedly seems to trigger coughing or congestion in your child, it’s best to avoid that specific item.
